What should we wear to our Family Portrait?

Family portraits are a great way to capture memories and create a treasured keepsake that you and your loved ones can cherish for years to come. When it comes to taking a family portrait in a studio, one of the most important considerations is what to wear. Choosing the right clothing can make all the difference in the final outcome of your portraits, so it's essential to put some thought into your outfits.

Here are some tips to help you choose the clothing for your family portrait.

  1. Keep it simple

When selecting outfits for your family portrait, it's best to keep things simple. Avoid busy patterns, bold stripes, and logos that can be distracting. Opting for solid colours that complement each other works really well (and then if someone does want to wear a pattern it sits well with everyone else's outfits). Neutral tones also work well, like beige, grey or pastel colours but we advise against wearing solid white clothes on the white background of our Studio.

  1. Coordinate colours

While everyone doesn't have to wear the exact same thing, it can be a good idea to coordinate your colours. Choose a colour palette and make sure everyone's clothing fits within that palette. This creates a cohesive look and ensures that no one stands out too much in the photo. A great colour to choose can be blue, as denim looks great in portraits.

  1. Dress for the occasion

Consider the occasion and setting when selecting your outfits. If you'd prefer a casual family portrait, you might want to wear jeans and a nice shirt. If you'd like a more formal portrait, you might opt for a dress or a suit. Or why not do both, you can simply bring a change of outfit!

  1. Think about the details

Pay attention to the small details, like accessories and shoes. Simple jewellery can add a nice touch to your outfit or a scarf can bring a splash of colour. Shoes should be clean and in good condition, or bare feet can be nice... especially with little children and babies.

  1. Be comfortable

It's important to be comfortable in your clothing so that you can relax and enjoy the photo shoot. Make sure your clothing fits well and isn't too tight or too loose. Choose fabrics that feel good against your skin and that allow you to move freely. And very importantly, love what you are wearing and feel confident in it.

In summary, when planning what to wear to a family portrait at our studio, keep it simple, coordinate colours, dress for the style of portrait you'd like, pay attention to details, and be comfortable. By following these tips, you'll be able to choose outfits that create a cohesive and timeless look for your family portrait.
